BERGAMO
11th -1 7th september 2025
COST - TBC
Beautiful Bergamo, divided into two parts, we will be staying in the atmospheric Citta Alta perched on the hill. From here we will spend our days wandering through the medieval cobblestoned lanes and sipping aperitivi in renaissance piazzas. We will explore the art and architecture of this magnificent small city and taste the local ingredients at some very lovely atmsopheric and family run trattorie. The views from this walled city, backdropped by snow capped mountains are truly awe inspiring.
Travelling down to the Citta Bassa, at the foot of the hill, we will discover a vibrant 19th century town filled with lively squares, bustling markets and chic boutiques. Strategically placed to enjoy some wonderful excursions we have the option of visiting a beautiful turn of the century spa town, choosing do do an e bike ride or hike in the surrounding hills or visiting the ancient ruins in nearby Brescia.
We will then spend the second half of our holiday at the nearby Lago Iseo, the local lake where Northern Italians traditionally have holidayed……
LAGO ISEO
Lago Iseo is one of Italys four Great Lakes and just the spot for a perfect retreat. It is a stunning natural area with picturesque fishing and market villages and dramatic alpine mountains that surround the deep blue/green waters. The food and wine is local, authentic and of a high quality. On our first afternoon we will settle into our lakeside hotel and explore the charming local village then enjoy a beautiful sunset aperitivo with the mountains as our backdrop before dinner.
Lago Iseo has the largest populated lake island in Europe, Monte Isola, which is reached by one of the network of boats that transport locals across the lake. During our time we will have the chance to visit this gorgeous island with its beautiful villages, rich history and delicious local produce. Cars are banned on Monte Isola which creates a wonderful atmosphere to wander, hike or cycle around.
Nestled just between Bergamo and Lago Iseo are the lush rolling hills of the Franciacorta wine region, a hidden gem that produces beautiful wines and is especially known for its high quality sparkling. We will be visiting an historic cellar and enjoying a fabulous tasting followed by a delicious vineyard lunch.
